Our primary aim is to support learning and teaching of Languages,
Linguistics and Area Studies across UK Higher Education

Funding opportunities

LLAS issues an annual call for bids for pedagogic / action research projects in priority areas. We also welcome applications for our guest speaker fund and for travel bursaries.

Current funding available:

Call for bids: Pedagogic research / action research projects

The Subject Centre funds a small number of projects every year. Details of the projects awarded funding in 2009-10 are available here. The 2010-11 call for bids will be published in the autumn.

Guest speaker fund

The Subject Centre has a small amount of funding available to support colleagues in UK HE institutions who wish to invite Guest speakers to contribute to staff development in the learning and teaching of Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies within their institution.

Travel bursary

The Subject Centre is able to offer a number of travel bursaries of up to £50 for UK based participants at our workshops. In return for the bursary, we request a report on the workshop attended. Travel bursaries will be paid on receipt of a satisfactory report within two weeks of the event.

Academy Scotland travel fund

This continuing initiative, originally launched by Academy Scotland in the 2008-09 academic year, is aimed at enabling staff and students in Scottish HEIs to engage with colleagues from other parts of the UK and to support their institution's priorities and developments in learning and teaching.
