Dr Lisa Bernasek

Academic Coordinator

Lisa has a background in Social Anthropology with a focus on Middle East and North African Studies and expertise in Arabic and French. She has worked for LLAS since 2007 as a research fellow and an Academic Coordinator. From 2010-12 she was the Academic Coordinator for the Higher Education Academy’s Islamic Studies Network.  She has also taught within Arabic, French Studies, and Islamic Studies and is the convener of the Curriculum Innovation Module 'The Arab World (in and) Beyond the Headlines'.

Kate Borthwick

Senior Academic Coordinator

Kate is a linguist who spent ten years teaching English to international students across the globe and in universities around the UK, before training in the effective use of technology in language teaching. She is an experienced developer of online learning materials and an e-tutor and currently coordinates LLAS activity in relation to elearning, initiating and managing projects, devising and delivering training, and organising and running events.

Dr Erika Corradini

Academic Coordinator

Erika’s areas of academic interest are languages and linguistics. Her research work is centred on the transformations that languages are subject to throughout history with a special focus on English and its cognates. Before coming to LLAS in 2009, Erika lectured in History of the English Language and Early English Texts and taught modern and old languages. At LLAS, Erika manages projects in the areas of translation and interpreting, community languages, multilingualism, and languages in schools and higher education. 

Alison Dickens

Assistant Director

Alison is a modern linguist who has worked in education for 23 years in a range of language teaching, academic development and project management roles. She currently directs the LLAS academic development programme, develops and delivers training in a number of areas including e-learning, language teaching and internationalisation.

Dr Angela Gallagher-Brett

Senior Academic Coordinator

Angela has a background in education. She is an experienced language teacher, academic developer, project manager and researcher with particular interests in language learning motivation, learning and teaching in higher education and transition from school to university. She is National Programme Manager for Routes into Languages and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Laurence Georgin

Academic Coordinator

After finishing her MA in English language at the University of Nancy, France in 2002, Laurence has worked in a variety of environments including teaching, project management and Higher Education management. She currently manages the Southampton Feedback Champions project which aims to discover and share good practice in the delivery and use of feedback by staff and students at the University of Southampton. 

Zena Hilton

Senior Academic Coordinator

Zena is a languages graduate and has worked in a number of education management roles. She has been at the University of Southampton since 2007 managing and supporting a range of language projects. She currently works on a number of projects both in and outside of Modern Languages.

Professor Michael Kelly

Director

Mike is Professor of French, specialising in modern French culture and society, and in language policy. He is currently completing a collaborative research project on languages in conflict situations. He has been Director of LLAS since 2000, and directs the Routes into Languages programme. He is Hon. Secretary of the Speak to the Future campaign on languages.

 

Sue Nash

Senior Administrator

Sue started work at the University of Southampton in 1993 when she first joined the Centre for Language Study through the temp bank. She has worked on several funded projects since then and joined LLAS as an administrator in 2000. She is currently the senior administrator for LLAS and responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of the admin team including personal assistant support for the Director of LLAS.

Matt Reynolds

Web Developer

Matt joined LLAS in 2009. He has worked with numerous companies in the past developing their websites from small business to multi-national PLC's. Matt's role involves him supporting the centres web presence through it's many websites. From maintaining the web servers to developing, building and designing new sites and features.
Marie Weaver

Administrator

Marie is the administrator for Routes into Languages.   She deals with all email enquiries to Routes@soton.ac.uk  and supports the programme at national level.
