Preamble

The 4 photo-montage sequences give you practice in taking notes and then converting your notes into points for including in an essay.

Reading the Images

The first short sequence, La Foule uses lines from Baudelaire's poetry as a sub-text to a stroll through a busy flea-market in the north of Paris in 2007. Exercise to Modify an Answer into an Essay Point - Make notes in the text area box to the right on how Baudelaire's nineteenth-century text can still provide a valid reading of twenty-first century Paris.

This group of three montage sequences are for a further excercise. The first two, Parcours and Nuit are walks through Paris mainly on the Right Bank of the city. They attempt to show the architecture and the experience of pedestrian mobility, even in the dark. When you have viewed the first two a few times please turn to the third sequence of Le Corbusier's model for new family buildings Villa. Then, please try the exercise.
parcours.wmv A walk south from Richelieu library to Les Halles métro.
nuit.wmv A night-time walk north from Boule' Miche'.
