This sample of online learning materials will help you to become familiar with and practise some important skills concerned with university study.

Ways of learning
These activities will introduce the characteristics of different types of learner and their preferred learning styles. This will help you to think about your learning style and allow you to consider some different approaches that might enhance your own learning.

Finding out about plagiarism
In these activities you will be introduced to the problem of plagiarism. You will identify some different forms of plagiarism. You will also consider why plagiarism is wrong and how it occurs.

Reading for your course
You will explore some of the key words needed to search for relevant reading material for your course assignments and consider some of the different reading skills involved in university study.

Using quotations effectively
In these activities you will practise producing quotations in the correct form for academic writing and compare the use of quotation with paraphrase.

Including tables and figures in academic writing
These activities will introduce you to some effective ways of integrating figures and tables in your academic written work.

Communicating online
In these activities, you will consider what rules there might be for communicating online in an academic context and explore some examples of email communications to decide what is and what is not appropriate.

Recognising the elements of a dissertation
These activities will provide an overview of the different elements of a dissertation and consider what typifies the content of each. You will also consider ways of structuring and numbering the parts of a dissertation.
