You know that the definite article aspirates the initial consonant of a following feminine word, and you may also know that s is treated differently. If not, read on.
The definite article has no effect on masculine words beginning with any consonant, including s.
Feminine nouns are normally aspirated. But when the first letter is s, you prefix a t to it. E.g. an tsráid 'the street'. There are exceptions, however. You cannot aspirate sc, sm, sp, st. E.g. an spád 'the spade'.
Instructions
The text on the right shows the definite article followed by a noun beginning with s.
Write out the definite article followed by the correct version of the noun. Once again, some of the nouns are feminine and some are masculine.
