This workshop aims to introduce participants to the opportunities and challenges of teaching languages through online synchronous tools. Participants can familiarise themselves with and discuss the issues involved in planning and delivering effective language teaching in a virtual classroom (1 March 2012), and an online session (9 March 2012) in which participants will experience online language teaching both as teachers and as students.
Part I takes place at the Open University, Milton Keynes on Thursday 1 March from 13.30 to 16.00pm.
This workshop will cover the following aspects :
- Initial considerations: Why? When? Where? How?
- Affordances of online conferencing systems, and pedagogical uses of specific tools
- planning an online teaching session: key pedagogical considerations
- Task design for online teaching: task types to make the most of the technology
- Challenges for classroom management
Part II is an online session on Friday 9 March from 10.00 - 12.00.
This online workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to use an online synchronous audio-visual conferencing environment, and to experience it both from the student's and the techer's perspective.
Fees
- There is a charge of £125 to attend this event.
