This seminar is jointly organised by the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies and the Centre for Central, Russian and East European Studies (University of Glasgow). It focuses on the important role played by languages in research and internationalisation in higher education and will include sharing of practice round the following themes:
- Challenges of research: why languages are important in Humanities and Social Science research
- Access to primary sources and the impact of reliance on translations
- Contribution of the UK language-based area studies centres to research capacity
- Community outreach
- Internationalisation
- Student perspectives on language needs in research.
Fees
- There is no charge to attend this event for employees and postgraduate students of publicly funded UK higher educational institutions and other institutions with a subscription to the Higher Education Academy.
- There is a charge of £50 for employees and postgraduate students of private institutions/organisations and non-UK institutions to attend this event.
- Please note that we reserve the right to charge a £30 cancellation fee if you do not notify us at least 48 hours beforehand that you are unable to attend.
